Is Battery Storage Worth Adding to Your Solar System in Rajasthan?

The most common question we receive about hybrid systems is whether the extra cost of batteries is worth it. The answer depends entirely on how frequently you experience power outages.

When Batteries Do Not Make Financial Sense

In most residential areas of Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Kota, the JVVNL grid has become considerably more reliable over the past five years. Most urban consumers experience fewer than 2 hours of unplanned outages per day on average.

Adding a 10kWh lithium iron phosphate battery system adds approximately Rs. 1.5 to Rs. 2 lakh to the installation cost. If the grid is reliable, the battery rarely discharges and delivers minimal additional value.

When Batteries Make Complete Sense

If you experience 4 to 6 hours of load shedding per day, or if your home has critical loads (medical equipment, a small business that cannot operate without power), batteries transform the system from a cost-saving tool into a reliability solution.

For a household spending Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 12,000 per month on a generator, replacing that generator with a hybrid solar system delivers both cost savings and improved reliability.

The Battery-Ready Design Approach

Our preferred approach: design and install an on-grid system now, but specify a hybrid-capable inverter. This costs approximately Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000 more. When your situation changes, batteries can be added to the same inverter without replacing the system.
