Net metering is the mechanism that makes on-grid solar financially viable. It allows your meter to run backwards when your panels generate more than you consume, crediting you for the surplus.
After your system is installed, your installer submits a net metering application to JVVNL including: system single-line diagram, panel and inverter specifications, installation completion certificate, site photographs, and applicable fees.
JVVNL schedules a technical inspection, typically within 10 to 20 working days of application submission. The inspection verifies the system meets all technical and safety standards.
After a successful inspection, JVVNL replaces your standard meter with a bi-directional net meter, recording both import from grid and export to it. This typically happens within 2 to 4 weeks of the inspection.
Your monthly bill shows two readings: import units and export units. You are billed for the net difference. If you exported more than you imported, the surplus is banked as credit against future bills. Rajasthan policy allows banking for up to 12 months.
