Rajasthan's dry, dusty climate means solar panels accumulate soiling faster than almost anywhere else in India. During pre-monsoon months, a single week without cleaning can reduce generation by 5 to 10 percent. During a dust storm, panels can lose 20 to 30 percent efficiency within 24 hours.
Summer (March to June): Clean every 7 to 10 days. Dust accumulation is fastest in hot, dry conditions.
Monsoon (July to September): Clean every 2 to 3 weeks. Rain does most of the work.
Winter (October to February): Clean every 10 to 14 days. Dew and morning mist create mud streaks.
Use a soft microfibre cloth or soft-bristle brush with clean water. Always clean in the early morning before panels heat up. Never clean hot panels with cold water — the thermal shock can micro-crack the glass. Do not use soap or detergent: they leave a film that attracts more dust. Do not use high-pressure jets.
Check your daily generation figure at least twice a week. Any unexplained drop of more than 10 percent sustained over several days warrants investigation.
Every year, have your installer conduct a health check covering: MC4 connector integrity, string voltage readings, earthing continuity, mounting structure fasteners, and visual inspection for hotspots or discolouration.
